For this project, our client hired us to design a spec house using portions of an existing dilapidated residence located on the site. We were able to reuse a few masonry walls and portions of the existing slab. The resultant design is a 4,000 square foot under air single story residence. From the exterior, architectural volumes are informed by division of space within. Two rectilinear prisms flank the project where the bedrooms are located, with the primary bedroom being situated opposite the other bedrooms. In the middle of the residence is a pop up volume with clerestory light. Here is where the living spaces can take advantage of the light and 15 foot ceilings. The living spaces are nestled between an open kitchen on one end and a covered terrace and pool on the opposite.
